Mute or block your ex on TikTok: what they’ll see
How to mute your ex’s posts, silence their messages or block them on TikTok, from TikTok’s help pages, and the setting that can show them you visited.
TikTok has a few ways to see less of someone, and one setting that can quietly give you away. The steps come from TikTok’s own help pages, checked on 25 September 2026. If a button has moved, the linked page has the current steps.
Which one to pick
- Mute their posts if you want them out of your feed and nothing to change on their side.
- Mute your chat if their messages are the problem. It only stops the notifications.
- Block if you want a clean stop in both directions.
One setting to check first
If you both have Profile view history switched on, visiting their profile shows them that you did. It’s off by default. To make sure it’s off, tap Profile, then Menu, then Settings and privacy, then Privacy, then Profile views, and switch off Profile view history.1
Likes and comments always count as views of their posts, even with post view history switched off.2
Mute their posts
If you’re friends on TikTok:
- Go to their profile.
- Tap the Share button at the top.
- Tap Mute their posts.
For anyone else, press and hold one of their posts, tap Not interested, then Creator, then Submit.
To stop alerts when they post or go LIVE, go to their profile, tap the Notification settings button at the top, and choose None.
They aren’t told, and they can still see your posts. Muted posts stay out of your feeds, but you’ll still see them if you visit their profile.3
Mute your chat
- Tap Inbox.
- On iPhone, swipe the chat and tap More. On Android, press and hold it.
- Tap Mute.
This only stops the notifications. Their messages still arrive.3
Block them
- Go to their profile.
- Tap the Share button at the top.
- Tap Block, then Block again to confirm.
They aren’t told. Neither of you can see the other’s posts, find each other in search, or send messages. You may still come across them in a multi-host LIVE, in Duets other people post, or in a group chat you share.4
If you still want to look
That’s normal, and it doesn’t mean you failed. Research on checking an ex online is in why you keep checking your ex’s profile. When the urge comes, pop a sheet of bubble wrap first. In nocnt, checking their profile has its own button, and logging it doesn’t reset your count.
